Delta Goodrem in tears before Strictly return after injury

Strictly Come Dancing star Delta Goodrem was seen breaking down in tears in an emotional update to fans ahead of her return to the dancefloor. The Australian singer, 41, missed last week's instalment of the BBC show due to injury but is set to perform alongside pro partner Kai Widdrington tonight (October 24).

Emotional video shows recovery struggle

In a behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram, Goodrem documented her past two weeks, including a hospital visit where she admitted the pain made her feel nauseous. An MRI scan the following day revealed she had a fractured rib. The clips showed her struggling to hold back tears as she awaited a decision on her Strictly future.

Earlier in the week, she said in the training room: "I was not going to go down without a fight. I had to process all the emotions pretty quickly. I definitely got a bit rocked and and a bit shocked, but I think [it helped] just working through and going 'I'm going to be there Monday.' Kai's been so amazing."

Fans rally behind star

After posting the video, Goodrem was inundated with supportive messages. One person said: "Strongest person I know! Remarkable what you've managed to achieve to come back the way you have! A true Warrior Bring in tonight." Another added: "Many many hugs, Delta. You are a Warrior, an inspiration. I hope that you felling better soon, you are a beautiful dancer. Let's go, girl!"

Goodrem wrote on Instagram: "I filmed little moments over the past two weeks to remind myself that even on the frustrating days, there would be progress. I was gutted when the injury happened as I've been truly loving this experience so much." She added: "It's hard to be patient when you want to be full force again but I've been listening, taking things carefully and learning to appreciate the small steps! Heading into show day feeling grateful to be able to take a few more tonight with all the incredible help from everyone around me xx."

Tonight's performance

The pair are set to dance the Rumba to Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back To Me Now. Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
