David Tennant, best known for his role in Doctor Who, has been announced as the host of next month's Bafta Film Awards. The 52-year-old actor will take the reins from last year's host, Richard E Grant, who co-presented with Alison Hammond.
The ceremony is set to take place on 18 February at the Royal Festival Hall in London's Southbank Centre, and will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Tennant expressed his delight at being asked to host, stating he looks forward to celebrating the year's best films and the talented individuals behind them.
Tennant recently returned to Doctor Who for the show's 60th anniversary episodes, playing the 14th Time Lord alongside Catherine Tate. Jane Millichip, chief executive of Bafta, said the organisation was 'over the moon' at Tennant's appointment, praising his warmth, charm, and mischievous wit.
The Bafta Film Awards longlists have been announced across 24 categories, with Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Flower Moon featuring prominently. The nominations for the 77th annual awards will be announced on 18 January by Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
