David Tennant Injured Filming Sex Scene For Disney Drama

David Tennant has revealed he was left “embarrassed and on the floor” after sustaining a painful injury while filming a sex scene for the Disney+ drama Rivals.

The 54-year-old actor, who plays Tony, Lord Baddingham in the Jilly Cooper adaptation, told ITV’s This Morning that the mishap occurred during a love scene. “I was launching myself onto a wooden bed, but unfortunately my knee collided with the bed frame in a rather unfortunate way. Not very sexy,” he explained.

When host Ben Shephard joked about whether Tennant now uses a stunt double for intimate scenes, Tennant laughed: “You can never quite tell when you are going to fall over and embarrass yourself, can you? But you certainly don't want to do it when you're wearing a modesty pouch.”

The second series of Rivals, based on Cooper’s bestselling Rutshire Chronicles novel, will consist of 12 episodes and continues to explore the ruthless world of 1980s British television. The ensemble cast includes Aidan Turner, Victoria Smurfit, Emily Atack, and Danny Dyer, who won the British Press Guild Award and RTS Television Award for his role as Freddie Jones.

Dame Jilly, executive producer and author, said: “I’m utterly sex-static filming for the second season is upon us. I’m delighted to be able to work with them again and for everyone to see what further mischief they all get up to!” The first series, released in October, received six Bafta TV Award nominations.
