Daisy May Cooper quits Celebrity Traitors over BBC demands

Daisy May Cooper has revealed she and her brother Charlie Cooper withdrew from Celebrity Traitors at the last minute after initially agreeing to appear on the BBC reality show. Three specific requirements from the production team made the pair decide the experience was not worth the pay.

Three Demands That Ended the Deal

In an interview with The Independent, the 40-year-old actress and comic explained that both she and Charlie had originally committed to the programme before growing uneasy about the conditions. She said they were told they would stay in a "shit hotel," which made her doubt whether she could take part.

Daisy also revealed she would not be allowed regular contact with her children during the fortnight-long production schedule. In addition, she would not be able to share a room with her brother, despite the pair having planned to participate as a team.

Why They Pulled Out

The combination of substandard accommodation, restricted access to her children, and being housed separately convinced the siblings to withdraw. "It just sounded like a f****** nightmare. I thought, 'F*** it. It's not enough money,'" Daisy said.

Daisy and Charlie rose to fame with their BAFTA-winning BBC sitcom This Country, which launched in 2017 and was inspired by their upbringing in Cirencester. Since then, Daisy has appeared in two series of Am I Being Unreasonable?, with a third in development, as well as Sky's Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Avenue 5, Celebrity Gogglebox, and The Masked Singer.

Career and Current Series

Daisy is raising three children under the age of eight with her former husband and current partner, DJ Anthony Huggins. She said she would clear her diary for another comedy hit, Last One Laughing: "Whatever is on, f****** clear my diary."

Her comments come as the current series of Celebrity Traitors continues. Friday's episode ended with a dramatic twist after actress Sharon Rooney and comic Joanne McNally received identical vote counts at the roundtable, leaving both at risk of elimination. Content creator King Kenny, awarded a double vote after being deemed among the most trustworthy contestants, held the deciding vote, with the episode ending before his verdict was revealed. The remaining players identified as among the most reliable were traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster.
