The BBC has confirmed that the second series of the Stockport-based comedy 'Daddy Issues' will premiere on Friday, November 21 at 9.35pm on BBC One and BBC Three, with episodes also available on BBC iPlayer. The show follows the reconnection of father Malcolm and daughter Gemma after she becomes pregnant.
David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) and Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) return as Malcolm and Gemma, alongside Sharon Rooney, Taj Atwal, David Fynn, and Sarah Hadland. The new series picks up after the birth of Gemma's daughter Sadie, exploring her adjustment to motherhood and Malcolm's joy at being a grandad.
Aimee Lou Wood revealed that the series begins with Gemma and Malcolm feeling disconnected due to the return of Gemma's mother Davina, played by Jill Halfpenny. She said: 'At the start of the new series Gemma and Malcolm are slightly disconnected thanks to Gemma's mum Davina. She's come back and pushed Malcolm out, so he's back living at Derek's whilst Gemma is adjusting to her new life as a mum.'
The synopsis teases a surprise visitor who forces Malcolm to confront his past and Gemma to face her future. Filming took place in Stockport and Wales, including a caravan park in Rhyl where Gemma's hopes for a relaxing spa holiday are dashed. Aimee added: 'There's also a musical number with David Morrissey doing some fantastic dancing.'
Returning cast members include David Fynn as Derek, Taj Atwal as Cherry, Sarah Hadland as Rita, and Sharon Rooney as Catherine. Jill Halfpenny joins as Davina. The series is set and shot in Stockport, with additional scenes in Wales.
