Coronation Street's Vicky Myers Braces for Backlash Over Roy Cropper Arrest

Coronation Street star Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, has admitted she is prepared for a backlash after her character arrests beloved cafe owner Roy Cropper on suspicion of murder. The detective is investigating the disappearance of Lauren Bolton and becomes suspicious of Roy after he cleans Lauren's flat, which she sublet from Evelyn.

Myers told Metro.co.uk that Swain sees Roy as 'almost too good to be true' and that her character deals only in facts, regardless of Roy's popularity. 'She doesn't know Roy, she doesn't care about Roy,' Myers said. 'Irrelevant of what anyone else says about this much-loved character on the Street, she doesn't care about that.'

The actress recalled a previous backlash when she arrested the wrong person in a hate crime storyline, leading to abuse from a member of the public in a shopping centre. However, she remains unfazed: 'In the main, people either love her or loathe her... I'll cope with [any backlash] fairly well – I hope.'

Myers praised working with David Neilson, who plays Roy, calling him 'an icon in every sense' and describing the arrest scene as daunting but professionally handled. 'Once you get on the floor, everybody is so professional... you become that character because the character isn't nervous,' she added.
