Coronation Street's Owen Armstrong is set to make a dramatic return to the ITV soap after nearly 11 years away, with actor Ian Puleston-Davies reprising his role as the builder. His comeback is teased to spell trouble for Gary Windass, as Owen is far from impressed by Gary's recent behaviour.
Owen decides to move back to the Cobbles to live with his daughter Izzy Armstrong, amid trouble involving his young grandson Jake. His scenes will not air until January 2027, but Puleston-Davies is back filming very soon.
Owen's Return and Troubled Relationships
Blaming Gary for Izzy and Jake's own drama, it has been teased that Owen's comeback could threaten Gary's business at the builders yard. Commenting on his return after his exit in 2015, Puleston-Davies said: "I can’t wait to pick up where I left off ten years ago! It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen’s back and he’s still angry!"
Coronation Street Producer Kate Brooks teased what was ahead, saying: "We're thrilled that Ian is back, and Owen brings a ton of drama. As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street, and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test."
Gary's Prison Sentence
It is suggested Owen will be back for a while if not full-time, with an unexpected alliance teased. This comes after Gary was sentenced to eight months in prison this week for his involvement in the cover-up of Theo Silverton's murder, committed by Sarah Platt.
Jake has struggled with his dad's fate, while it is not clear when Gary will be released. Given the eight-month sentence, fans are anticipating a return at some point.
Fallout from the Murder Cover-Up
Maria was furious with her partner's sentence, given that the killer Sarah had just been found not guilty. Sarah has been released after months locked up, allowed to return home despite killing Theo.
Gary had been called by Sarah on the night to help her cover up the crime, and he hid the murder weapon despite his reluctance. This cover-up has seen him face trouble with the law, locked up himself while Sarah has gone free. The twist has left fans stunned, with viewers struggling to understand how the actual killer of Theo is allowed to return home while Gary faces prison.
