Coronation Street's Beth Nixon: From Skin Clinic Manager to Soap Star

Beth Nixon, the 25-year-old actress behind Coronation Street's villainous Megan, has opened up about her journey from a normal job to soap stardom. The York-born actress studied drama at the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester and was managing a skin clinic while auditioning for roles.

Upon learning she had secured the role of Megan, Beth was overwhelmed with emotion. 'I was at work when my agent called me. I was upstairs as my colleague watched the desk and, when he told me I'd got it, everybody in the clinic could hear me screaming my head off and then I cried,' she told York College. 'It's been four years since I graduated and this is my first TV role.'

Before her Corrie debut, Beth had done 'a few plays and radio voiceovers' and featured in a McDonald's advert in Switzerland alongside her actor ex-boyfriend. 'I was flown out there for four days, shot the advert and thought it was just the coolest thing in the world – getting paid to eat McDonald's all day in Switzerland!' she recalled.

Beth nearly landed a role on Coronation Street before, having auditioned for the part of Lauren Bolton. However, actress Cait Fitton was eventually cast as Lauren. Beth's agent later called her about the role of Megan, which she successfully auditioned for.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
