Coronation Street star Pauline McLynn has suggested that the soap's upcoming death mystery could involve more than one victim. The flashforward episode, aired in February, showed Betsy discovering a body on the day of Carla Connor and Lisa Swain's wedding in April. The identity of the deceased has been narrowed down to five characters: Maggie, Megan, Theo, Carl, or Jodie.
In an exclusive interview with Inside Soap, McLynn, who plays Maggie, hinted that any of the five could also be a killer, and that there might be multiple deaths. 'All five of the people who are up for being killed, any one of those could have killed someone else,' she said. 'We filmed a lot of it at night in the storms, so even nature was adding to the atmosphere!'
Maggie has been at the centre of several storylines since the Driscolls arrived in Weatherfield, including the fallout from Megan grooming teenage Will. She also harbours a secret affair with Jim McDonald from decades ago, which could reveal that Ben is Jim's son and potentially inherited myotonic dystrophy.
When asked about the possibility of Maggie being the murder victim, McLynn laughed: 'As long as it's a good death and there's a bit of screaming and shouting at the television, I'm happy enough to go!' The full interview appears in the upcoming issue of Inside Soap, available from Tuesday, 24 March.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
