Former Coronation Street actor James Cartwright, who played Theo Silverton, has said he hopes Sarah Platt is cleared of his character's murder, describing Theo as "an absolute stinker" who deserved his fate. His comments come ahead of the verdict in Sarah's trial, which is confirmed in Monday's (October 19) edition of the ITV soap.
Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, was revealed to be Theo's killer in flashback scenes aired in June. Theo's body was found by Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor, weeks after the discovery. A murder investigation followed, placing several Weatherfield residents under suspicion, including Theo's husband, Todd Grimshaw.
Confession and Arrest
As Todd struggled in the aftermath of his abusive husband's murder, Sarah confessed the truth to her best friend, and her partner, DC Kit Green, learned of the killing when she admitted it as he was about to propose. Despite Kit's attempts to cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo and later charged as evidence mounted. She admitted to the murder, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was in self-defence.
Last week, Sarah appeared in court as her murder trial took place, with Lisa, Danielle Silverton, Todd, Gary Windass and Kit all taking the stand to be questioned. The proceedings did not appear to be going in Sarah's favour.
Actor's Verdict
Speaking to Digital Spy at the recent Inside Soap Awards 2026, James Cartwright said: "I really hope she gets off with it. To the jury — let her off!" He added: "He was an absolute stinker, what a horror of a man. It's great how it ended, it's great that he met his end. And absolutely — free Sarah."
Cartwright, who has since returned to radio drama The Archers, which he calls "one of the great joys of my life", also reflected on his character's exit: "What greater justice than a scaffolder going off some scaffolding after a scaff pole to the back of the head? I really, really enjoyed it!"
Sarah's fate is set to be revealed in the Monday, October 19 edition of Coronation Street, concluding the trial storyline.
