Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs will be left feeling 'devastated' in upcoming scenes as he turns violent, having been encouraged to do so by his father, Ross Wilkes. Actor Alan Halsall has revealed that Tyrone will punch Chesney Brown after Ross goads him into confronting Chesney about an alleged bullying incident involving Dorin.
Viewers will recall that Tyrone was surprised to come face-to-face with his biological dad for the first time earlier this year. The big reveal came after Tyrone's children, Hope and Ruby, surprised him for his birthday by finding his father through a DNA database, much to the distress of his mother, Cassie Plummer.
Ross Wilkes' Toxic Influence Grows
Cassie previously told her mother, Evelyn Plummer, about her ex-boyfriend, who had forced her into sex work when she was underage. Evelyn was shocked to learn that Cassie's father had discovered what was going on, and she never got over it. She then reeled when she realised that Tyrone's father must have been one of Cassie's clients.
Despite Cassie being uncomfortable, Tyrone decided to get to know his dad, who was also quick to strike up a romance with Tracy Barlow. But, as expected, it didn't go down well with Cassie, who tried to expose Ross for who he really is, but it only ended up in her being forced out of Weatherfield.
Since then, Corrie viewers have seen even more of a glimpse at Ross' true character, and his toxic behaviour will only get worse in upcoming scenes. As fans have already seen, Ross has been trying to cast his influence over his son and his grandson, Dorin, by trying to get them involved in boxing. While Tyrone admitted he wasn't keen, and would only go back if Dorin requested so, Ross struggled to hide his annoyance. Then, when Ruby expressed her own interest in the sport, Ross encouraged Tyrone to get her to change her mind.
Tyrone Punches Chesney in Upcoming Scenes
Ross' control over Tyrone is only going to grow, as spoilers for next week's Corrie have revealed. It comes as Tyrone discovers a bruise on Dorin, who says Aled punched him. It leads Ross to goad him into confronting Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown about Aled's alleged bullying.
Tyrone visits them and tells them Dorin won't be at the quads' party. But when Ross arrives, he purposely ignites a row between Tyrone and Chesney. Tyrone, desperate to prove he isn't a pushover, punches Chesney. While Tyrone is filled with immediate regret, Ross validates the violence. Will Tyrone realise he's in the wrong, or has Ross manipulated him too far?
Alan Halsall on Tyrone's Regret
Speaking about Ross' manipulation of Tyrone, Alan explains: "Ross continuously drip-feds him things like, 'Ty, you need to stand up for yourself, you need to stand up for your family.' Even though Tyrone initially sees it as a small thing where kids will be kids, Ross keeps telling him, 'Come on, stand up for yourself, you can't let this go on, tell Chesney.'"
"Then, once Chesney looks at Tyrone and says, 'Come on, mate, what are you doing? This is ridiculous,' that gets Tyrone's back up because he feels he has to do it to show his dad. He's basically caught in the middle of it and causes a row that would never have happened prior to Ross being there."
But Tyrone will realise what he's done is wrong. "When something becomes physical like it does between Tyrone and Chesney, there's an immediate realisation from Tyrone, 'Oh God, this isn't me. This isn't right. I shouldn't have done that,'" Alan shared. "He immediately regrets it, though he might not be willing to admit to himself straight away that he only did it for his dad. He's devastated because Ches isn't just a friend, he's family. Nobody punches Ches!"
Viewers, however, need not worry, as Alan appeared to confirm that Tyrone will see Ross for who he really is eventually. "Right now, Ross is trying to control Tyrone, but Tyrone sees it as very different to what Kirsty [Soames, his abusive ex-wife] did because it's a different person doing it in a different way, plus Ross is a big, intimidating chap," he shared.
"In the end, Tyrone will realise, 'Hang on a minute, I'm not thinking for myself here, why is that?' It might take Tyrone longer than other people, but he'll get there with the help of Fiz, family, and others."
