Sarah Platt's fate has been confirmed in Coronation Street after the jury delivered a not guilty verdict in her trial over the death of Theo Silverton. The decision, revealed during Monday's episode, prompted fans to take to X, formerly Twitter, to call the outcome "obvious" and "quick."
Trial concludes with not guilty verdict
Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, had been on trial after she hit Theo (James Cartwright) with a metal pole, causing him to fall to his death. The incident followed Theo's abuse of her ex and close friend Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). After the fall, Sarah called Gary Windass (Mikey North), who helped cover up the death.
Unable to let someone else go to prison for her crime, Sarah surrendered herself and appeared in court last week. The trial got off to a difficult start when DS Lisa Connor-Swain's (Vicky Myers) statement unintentionally made things worse for Sarah, while Theo's ex Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) spoke in his defence.
Fans react to the verdict
All hope rested on Todd, who was nervous on the stand as he recalled his abusive relationship with Theo. Due to anxiety, Todd stumbled over his words and failed to help Sarah's case. Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who initially refused to attend court, changed his mind and testified in support of his former girlfriend, telling the jury he did not believe she was capable of murder.
During Monday's (October 19) episode, the jury delivered its verdict, finding Sarah not guilty. Reacting on X, one fan wrote: "An obvious verdict. Obvious to me anyway. Strange time during the programme to announce it, thought it might have been a cliffhanger at the end. #corrie." Another added: "Shortest trial ever. Quickest verdict ever."
Others echoed the sentiment: "Wow they've reached a verdict quick," and "Waste of time making Sarah the killer." A fifth user agreed: "Of course our Sarah Lou is found 'not guilty' there's no way she was gonna go down for this #Corrie."
Secrets remain as Sarah returns to the cobbles
Back on the cobbles, a relieved Sarah hoped Kit would give her another chance, but he made it clear it was too late. What Kit did not reveal is that he slept with Sarah's daughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) while Sarah was in prison. Bethany has also yet to tell either of them that she is pregnant with Kit's baby.
Fans will have to wait and see what happens next as Sarah settles back into her life away from jail. Coronation Street airs weeknights on ITV1 at 8.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX.
