Coronation Street’s Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) is left torn after Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) gives him an ultimatum about their future together.
In episodes airing this week, the couple have been dealing with the impact of Debbie’s dementia diagnosis on their relationship. After Debbie made it clear on several occasions that she wanted to be intimate with Ronnie, he repeatedly declined. Confused by his reluctance, Debbie eventually learned that Ronnie was afraid she would suffer a memory lapse while they were together.
Feeling insecure, Debbie sought reassurance by telling a stranger at the hotel that her husband no longer fancies her. Later, a heated argument at the flat ended when Ronnie blurted out that this version of Debbie isn’t the one he fell in love with.
Debbie falls victim to a scam
In today’s episode, Debbie was at the hotel talking to Paula, a woman she met in prison earlier this year. Paula, now released, took advantage of Debbie’s dementia to run a scam, managing to steal Adam Barlow’s (Sam Robertson) engagement ring intended for Alya Nazir (Sair Khan).
Frustrated that his proposal had not gone to plan and that the expensive ring was missing, Adam directed harsh words at Debbie.
Ronnie faces a difficult decision
Ronnie arrived at the hotel and had time to talk with Debbie. Alone, she told him that if he wants to walk away from the relationship, he can. She made clear that her dementia is only going to get worse, and if he cannot handle it, he needs to leave. Ronnie looked completely torn.
