Coronation Street Fans Stunned by Filming Secret Behind Gary's Grave Scene

Coronation Street viewers have been left shocked after discovering that the dramatic grave-digging scenes featuring Gary Windass were filmed during the day in sweltering heat, not at night as they appeared.

In the episode, Gary (Mikey North) was kidnapped by Kieron, hired by Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) to avenge her father Rick's murder. Gary was forced to dig his own grave in a forest, but fans were stunned to learn the scene was shot in broad daylight during the UK's recent heatwave, when temperatures soared above 30°C.

The official Coronation Street Twitter account shared behind-the-scenes photos revealing the daytime filming. One fan joked, "Nah I’ve been lied to. I’m never trusting anything on tv again," while another noted the bright sunlight, saying, "I thought the episode was filmed during the summer heatwave because the sun was very bright."

Some viewers criticised the lack of a darker filter, with one writing, "A slightly lighter blue filter would have done wonders so we could have made out what we were looking at." Another questioned why the soap rarely shoots outdoor night scenes, with a fan suggesting it's due to timing, as proper night filming would require waiting until around 11pm.

Mikey North previously teased that the Gary and Kelly storyline was coming "full circle," amid reports one character could die. He said, "I think it was inevitable that this was the way it would end. I'm just really happy that he sort of comes full circle." Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
