Coronation Street viewers are growing concerned for the future of Carla Connor and Lisa Swain, known collectively as Swarla, after a major lie was uncovered during Tuesday's episode. The couple, who became engaged in late 2024, have faced turmoil following the apparent return of Lisa's wife Becky, who was later arrested. With the wedding now approaching, tensions rose as Lisa lied about her hen party plans.
During the episode, Carla was preparing for her own hen do at the Rovers Return when she asked Lisa about her celebration. Lisa vaguely replied it would be 'somewhere quiet in town.' However, later that evening, Sally Metcalfe caught Lisa buying a ready meal for one and admitted no one had organised anything for her, begging Sally not to tell Carla. Sally ignored the plea and marched Lisa to the pub, where Carla joked about having a word with Lisa's colleagues.
Fans took to social media to express their unease. One wrote on X: 'Lisa lying to Carla about her non existent bachelorette party is weird…' Another on Reddit speculated: 'I just thought it was really, really odd that Lisa lied... I know Swarla is the prize possession of Corrie atm but we all know that bosses these days can't keep a couple together.' Some suggested the lie could lead to a breakup, with Peter Barlow potentially returning for Carla.
Other viewers offered reassurance, suggesting Lisa may be embarrassed about having no real friends due to her past with Becky or her job. One fan said: 'I think she's probably embarrassed about having no real friends... she's also someone that's never really needed anyone or needed approval until she let Carla in.' Another noted: 'I think she's found not just a partner in Carla but also a best friend so she likely doesn't feel like she needs to expand on that.'
Despite the drama, the couple's wedding is set to be a focal point of a special week, which will also feature a murder. Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks said: 'It was a very complicated storylining process! I did lose a bit of sleep and my hair went a little bit greyer. Usually in a murder week you’ve got one victim.' The wedding will proceed, but fans remain wary of what lies ahead for Swarla.
