Coronation Street Fans Question 'Glaring Error' in Roy Cropper Hallucination Storyline

Coronation Street viewers have pointed out what they describe as a 'glaring error' in the soap's current storyline involving teenager Sam Blakeman and his hallucinations of Roy Cropper. Sam, played by Jude Riordan, has been seeing an evil version of the beloved café owner, who encourages him to take violent action against a teacher.

In recent episodes, Sam has been seen talking out loud to the hallucination in public places, including on the street and at school. Fans have taken to social media to question why no other characters have noticed Sam talking to himself. One viewer wrote on X: 'How has not a single person on that permanently busy street noticed Sam talking to himself at full volume?' Another added: 'It's odd... the biggest glaring error is that Sam seems to be talking to himself out loud constantly and not one person has noticed.'

The storyline sees Sam struggling with psychosis after being bullied by teacher Megan Walsh. The hallucination of Roy, played by David Neilson, has been urging Sam to harm Will Driscoll, the teacher with whom Megan was having an affair. In one scene, the vision claimed to have tampered with Will's water bottle, but nothing came of it.

Despite the criticism of the plot device, many fans have praised David Neilson's performance as the sinister version of Roy. One viewer commented: 'David Neilson must be relishing the opportunity to show his acting chops. He is bloody magnificent as evil Roy.' Another said: 'It’s nice to see the actor’s range a bit. I’m impressed that David portrays it so well.'

Coronation Street continues weeknights on ITV.
