Coronation Street viewers were left puzzled on Thursday evening after Roy Cropper's sudden release from prison, with many questioning the lack of a key scene. The beloved café owner had been wrongly arrested and charged with the murder of missing teenager Lauren Bolton, who had secretly left Weatherfield earlier this year.
In Thursday's episode, Roy was trapped in his cell by far-right extremist Griff Reynolds, who attempted to force a confession. However, a phone call from his niece Nina Lucas revealed that Nathan Curtis had been charged with Lauren's murder, leading to Roy's freedom. The scene then cut abruptly to Roy walking out of prison, greeted by Nina and solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey, before celebrating at the café.
Fans took to social media to express their confusion over the missing procedural steps. One viewer tweeted: 'I really don’t think Roy would get out the same day. Surely he would need to go to court and also he would be interviewed about Griff.' Another joked: '#corrie #coronationstreet Don't ever use teleporting again.'
The episode also revealed the true killer: Joel Deering, who was seen playing with Lauren's necklace after a flashback showed him attacking her. The storyline continues as Joel remains free, with Nathan Curtis now arrested for the crime.
