Coronation Street fans have been flooding social media with the same demand after it was announced that Owen Armstrong will return to Weatherfield from January. Viewers of the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, are now calling for Anna Windass to make a comeback as well.
Owen Armstrong's dramatic history on the cobbles
Owen, played by actor Ian Puleston-Davies, first appeared in 2010 as an ambitious builder who had acquired the Builder's Yard in Victoria Street for his firm, Owen Armstrong Construction. He took on Jason Grimshaw and Gary Windass, who was the former partner of Owen's daughter Izzy.
In 2011, Owen began a relationship with Anna Windass, Gary's mum, and became stepfather to her adopted daughter, Faye Windass. The character was last seen in Weatherfield in April 2015, when he announced he was leaving after his relationship with Anna broke down and his business collapsed, partly due to Pat Phelan.
Return storyline revealed
Owen went to Portugal before settling in Scotland, but almost eleven years after leaving Weatherfield, he is returning to the cobbles. He is less than impressed with the actions of Izzy's former partner, as he finds out Gary is behind bars, having been given an eight-month sentence for helping Sarah Platt cover up Theo Silverton's murder.
Determined to help Izzy and his grandson Jake, Owen makes it clear he blames Gary for his family's misfortune and announces he is moving back to live with them.
Fans call for Anna Windass comeback
As Owen's return is confirmed for January, Corrie fans have been quick to issue a demand for another return. @LikeATattoooooo said: "Very impressed with whoever came up with this comeback. I'd bring Anna back as well. Shame Katy's since been lost (due to short-sighted writing), interested to see how that has affected him in the years since. #Corrie."
