Coronation Street aired a shocking twist at the end of Tuesday night's episode as Sally Metcalfe attacked her foster daughter. The factory worker, played by Sally Dynevor since 1986, was forced to take in her husband Tim's long-lost niece Lucy when her mum was murdered and her dad went to prison.
It's not clear yet if her father committed the crime, but since moving into number six, Lucy has been exhibiting worrying behaviour such as bullying Sally's other foster daughters, whose father Mick is also in prison for murder.
Halloween Party Takes a Dark Turn
On Tuesday night's episode of the world's longest-running TV soap, which was set on Halloween, there was a party at the Rovers to celebrate spooky season. However, Sally was at home after news of a riot that had broken out at the local prison and was concerned that Mick had escaped.
Sally spent the evening clutching onto a vase as a makeshift weapon and, to make matters worse, the house was in darkness after a power cut. Dressed as a ghost, Lucy decided it was a good idea to sneak up on Sally and frighten her.
Fans Question the Timing
Convinced Mick had somehow got in the house, Sally screamed and attacked Lucy with the vase. The whole thing culminated in Lucy storming off upstairs, claiming that she didn't want to live there anymore because Sally was "just like her mum."
But aside from all the drama of the evening, fans were left more confused as to why an episode set on the 31st October had aired four days early. One angry fan wrote on X: "Do #Corrie writers not know that Halloween is 31 October and not Tues 27th…" whilst another said: "Since when was Halloween on 27th October. Why not at least have it on the Friday episode or even the Sunday. Was a little pantomimic. 'It’s behind you' They should have had Lucy in a scream mask."
Another explained: "Episodes are out of whack becuase of football. Word on the street is they’re struggling to get Christmas to line up." Another fan suggested: "Why not do it on Friday then. I was also a bit confused as to why they were doing it so early."
Scheduling Changes Ahead
Usually, Coronation Street follows on from Emmerdale weeknights at 8:30pm in what was named a "soap power hour" earlier this year amid ITV budget cuts. This week, fans will miss Coronation Street and Emmerdale on Wednesday thanks to the Carabao Cup, and no episodes will be released on YouTube or ITVX either.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
