Coronation Street viewers have expressed confusion after Shona Platt's long-lost sister Jodie made a sudden appearance on the soap. The mystery woman, played by Olivia Frances Brown, was first seen tied up in a van during the Corriedale crossover episode and later appeared at Weatherfield General, where Shona was recovering from surgery.
In scenes broadcast on Friday, Jodie walked into Shona's hospital room and greeted her with 'Hiya, sis,' despite Shona never having mentioned a sister during her 11 years on the cobbles. Shona, played by Julia Goulding, quickly asked Jodie to leave, saying she would get in touch when she had 'the headspace' to deal with the reunion.
Fans took to social media to question the timing and manner of Jodie's arrival. One wrote: 'Shona's sister just came out of nowhere, why now? Must be more to the story!' Another added: 'Apparently Jodie is Shona's sister, but I don't understand why they've got her turning up now. And in such a weird way - bound up in the back of a van.'
The storyline is the latest in a series of long-lost relative reveals on the show, following Bernie Winter being revealed as DC Kit Green's mother, and Carla Connor discovering a nephew she never knew she had. The revelation comes just days after Shona and David welcomed their baby daughter Harper.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX.
