Coronation Street and Emmerdale cancelled tonight for Pride of Britain Awards
Corrie and Emmerdale off air tonight for Pride of Britain

Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been taken off air tonight as ITV reshuffles its schedule to make way for the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, hosted by Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo. The star-studded ceremony took place in London earlier this week.

Pride of Britain Awards take the primetime slot

The awards, founded by former Mirror editor Peter Willis, celebrate the achievements of some of the UK's most incredible people, honouring unsung heroes such as children of courage, tireless fundraisers, and those who have acted with outstanding bravery.

Audiences can watch the ceremony from home this evening, but it means the usual soap offerings have been dropped from the schedule. Coronation Street and Emmerdale normally air weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX, but they will not air tonight to make space for the awards, which run from 8pm until 10.05pm.

What to expect from the ceremony

The programme description reads: "This year's ceremony from London's Grosvenor House Hotel sees a star-studded line up including His Majesty The King, Jude Belllingham, Davina McCall and Alan Carr celebrate the nation's unsung heroes."

It adds: "Hosted by Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo, expect plenty of emotion and surprises along with inspirational stories of bravery, achievement and selflessness. Plus, stepping off their 25th Anniversary Tour for a special performance are boyband Blue."

When will the soaps return?

The soaps will air as normal on Friday (October 23), with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm. Tonight's Emmerdale description reads: "Thea steals Kim's phone, while Liam seems to be hiding something and Kammy makes a declaration."

The teaser for Coronation Street said: "Debbie rows with an old adversary before setting her sights on a new man, and Fiz confronts Ross for deliberately sabotaging her family's film night." Extra episodes have also been added to the schedule on Sunday (October 25) to make up for tonight's missing episodes.
