Jude Riordan, the young actor who portrays Sam Blakeman on Coronation Street, has recently celebrated a significant birthday milestone on the set of the iconic soap opera. The actor, who first appeared on the cobbles in 2020 as the secret son of Nick Tilsley (played by Ben Price), turned 15 years old.
A Journey on the Cobbles
Since his arrival, Sam has been at the centre of several dramatic storylines. One of the most notable was the tragic death of his mother, Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac), at the hands of thug Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). More recently, Sam became embroiled in a gripping plot involving athletics coach Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) and Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale). After exposing their relationship, Sam faced severe backlash, including Megan's attempts to ruin his life. This led him to misuse unprescribed ADHD medication. Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks has hinted that Sam's mental health will continue to deteriorate, with visual hallucinations on the horizon.
Birthday Surprise on Set
To mark his 15th birthday, Jude shared a video on Instagram from the Bistro set. In the clip, his co-stars, including Georgia Taylor (who plays Toyah Battersby), and the Coronation Street crew counted down before Jude blew out the candles on a cake, followed by cheers and applause. In the caption, Jude wrote: "I mean a Bistro birthday is worth working on your birthday! Thank you for all my birthday messages and thank you to one of my most favourite people @realgeorgiataylor for my surprise."
Fans and fellow cast members flooded the comments with birthday wishes. Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman, commented: "Happy birthday mate!" Georgia Taylor added: "Ah we love you buddy." Jane Danson, who portrays Leanne Battersby, gushed: "Happy birthday darling!"
Personal Loss Earlier This Year
In March, Jude faced a heartbreaking loss with the death of his beloved dog, Ruby. He shared the sad news on Instagram, posting pictures of himself growing up with the King Charles Cavalier. In the caption, he wrote: "I didn't expect to say goodbye to her. Even though she was at end of life stage it was still a big shock. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to Ruby. I held her little face right until the end. Losing a dog is so painful. She was a sweet girl and we will miss her forever. Hope her tired legs are strong again running over rainbow bridge."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
