Coronation Street Villain Stephen Reid Dies In Shock Exit

Coronation Street viewers witnessed the dramatic end of serial killer Stephen Reid during Super Soap Week, as the character met his comeuppance in a shocking turn of events. Stephen, played by Todd Boyce, had previously murdered Leo Thompkins, Teddy Thompkins, and Rufus Donohue, as well as drugging Carla Connor and attempting to steal his mother Audrey's money.

His reign of terror came to a halt when he took Rovers landlady Jenny Connor hostage, dragging her into the street with a broken bottle to her neck. He demanded that David Platt bring him a getaway car, but as panic set in, Peter Barlow raced back to Weatherfield after failing to locate Stephen at the airport. In a desperate move, Peter drove his car at Stephen, knocking him onto the cobbles.

Stephen later died from his injuries, leaving Audrey distraught and Peter stunned that he had taken a life. The consequences of Stephen's death are set to ripple through Weatherfield, with Audrey coming to terms with her son's actions, Tim dealing with the aftermath of being assaulted and left in a car boot, and Peter facing the reality of killing someone.

Actor Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter, has hinted at further fallout, saying: 'He has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that... Peter is a man who is in deep conflict with himself.' Coronation Street continues on ITV1 at 8pm on Wednesday.
