Coronation Street is set to air a special episode dedicated to Debbie Webster and her friendship group on Monday. The ITV soap will move away from its usual storylines to shine a light on the women of Weatherfield.
The special broadcast comes after an emotional period on the cobbles, with one of Weatherfield's favourite women diagnosed with early onset dementia.
'Debbie's Angels' take centre stage
Monday's episode will focus on "Debbie's Angels" - Abi, Bernie, Christina, Sally and Glenda - who gather at Debbie's flat to help with a birthday surprise for Carl.
Producer Kate Brooks said it is important to keep the legacy of female friendships alive on Coronation Street.
Producer on the show's women
Speaking to the ECHO and other press, Kate Brooks said: "What makes Coronation Street so special are these really strong, funny, complicated, messy Northern women who you know and love. When you look back at the women over the course of 66 years, every single era has got these standout characters that are the driving force."
On the special episode, she said: "I love this episode so much because each individual character is going through so much, they've got their own trauma and issues going on, but the friendship and the laughter is the thread that keeps them together."
She added: "I wanted to dedicate a whole episode to these women and these stories. No stunts, it's just about their relationship and what it's like being in a female friendship group."
