Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) has been found not guilty in Coronation Street after her trial concluded in the episode dated October 19. The jury delivered its verdict, clearing her of any crime related to the death of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), and she was free to go home.
Earlier this year, Sarah was involved in a showdown with Theo, the man who had abused Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). After Sarah struck him with a metal pole, Theo fell to his death. She immediately called Gary Windass (Mikey North), who helped try to cover up the incident. However, Sarah ultimately could not keep the secret and let someone else go to prison for her crime.
Trial Proceedings and Witness Testimony
Last week, Sarah arrived in court for her trial. The proceedings got off to a difficult start when DS Lisa Connor-Swain's (Vicky Myers) statement unintentionally made things worse for Sarah, while Theo's ex Danielle (Natalie Anderson) defended him.
The next day, hope rested on Todd Grimshaw, who was incredibly nervous when he took the stand. He had to recall the abusive relationship he had with Theo. Because of his anxiety, Todd slipped up on his words several times and did not do a good job at helping Sarah. After initially refusing to go to court, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) changed his mind and decided to testify. While Kit did not hesitate in telling the jury what he really thinks of Sarah, he also stated that he does not believe she is capable of murder.
Verdict and Aftermath
In today's episode, the trial concluded and it was time for the jury to deliver their verdict. Everyone was on edge. Fortunately, it was revealed that Sarah had been found not guilty.
Back in Weatherfield, a relieved and overjoyed Sarah quickly turned her attention to her relationship with Kit. She hoped that Kit would give her another chance, but he made it clear that it was too late. What Kit hasn't told Sarah is that he slept with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) while she was behind bars. And what Bethany hasn't told either of them is that she is currently pregnant with Kit's baby.
The life Sarah was living before she went to prison isn't the one she is living now.
