Coronation Street Grooming Plot Sparks Viewer Outrage After Shocking Twist
Coronation Street grooming plot twist shocks viewers

Coronation Street has left its audience feeling deeply unsettled following a dramatic and controversial twist in its ongoing grooming storyline. Friday night's episode on ITV saw the situation for teenager Will Driscoll take a worrying turn, prompting a flood of concerned reactions from viewers.

A Family Unknowingly Enables the Relationship

The episode, which aired on Friday, November 14, 2025, centred on the illicit relationship between 15-year-old Will and his athletics coach, Megan, played by Beth Nixon. After returning from a trip they had falsely claimed was for a sports competition, Megan attempted to end the affair. Will reacted angrily, storming out of her car.

The plot thickened when Will's father, Ben Driscoll, encountered Megan and insisted on giving her petrol money before inviting her to dinner with the family at the Rovers Return. During the awkward meal, Megan officially resigned as Will's coach. Will then pretended that a girlfriend from Hull had dumped him, a lie that prompted his grandmother, Maggie, to comment, "The surest way for a lad to get over a girl is to get over the next one."

Viewer Backlash on Social Media

The most shocking development came when Maggie and Eva Price went behind Ben's back to find a solution for Will's despair. They secretly arranged for Megan to be paid for private, one-on-one training sessions at the pub twice a week. This move, intended to make Will happy, effectively ensures Megan can continue her predatory relationship with the teenager under the family's nose.

Fans of the world's longest-running soap immediately took to social media to voice their discomfort and outrage. One viewer tweeted, "#Corrie how old is that trainer, he's only 15, find it an uncomfortable storyline." Another expressed frustration, writing, "Ben to Megan: 'Will trusts you.' Oh, Ben, you have no idea."

A third viewer raged, "Ben wants to thanks Megan for everything she has done. He wouldn’t want to be thanking her for everything she has done if he knew that she is doing his son," while a fourth added a stark warning, "It's really worrying how Eva & Ben trust Megan. Just like how in real life parents trust adults around their kids, not knowing that they could be predators!"

Actress Teases Further Complications

Actress Beth Nixon, who is making her television debut in the role, has previously teased that her character's manipulative actions are set to escalate. To cover her tracks and make Will jealous, Megan is due to get a job at the local secondary school, Weatherfield High, and strike up a relationship with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

Nixon explained that while this begins as a calculated cover story, Megan eventually develops genuine feelings for Daniel, further complicating the dangerous web she has woven. "She's kind of spinning all these plates and having to juggle all these different things, which adds to her stress," Nixon said. "She's like a duck, calm, cool, collected on the surface, but underneath she is going crazy."

This controversial grooming plot continues to be a central and deeply troubling narrative on the ITV soap, airing at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
