Coronation Street fans have predicted who might end bully Ross Wilkes' reign of terror on the ITV soap, amid a worrying theory about his plan for Tyrone Dobbs. Viewers are concerned about the safety of characters, including his son Tyrone, as Ross's behaviour becomes increasingly alarming.
Ross's worrying behaviour towards Tyrone
Ross, played by actor Ian Burfield, debuted earlier this year as Tyrone's long-lost father. Since then, he has been spending time with the family but displaying worrying behaviours, including trying to influence Tyrone and his grandson Dorin with his misogynistic behaviour and opinions. He has called out Tyrone for things including doing the washing up and encouraged his teenaged daughters to take up boxing.
Tyrone has sensed his dad's thoughts and often agrees with them to impress him, much to the dismay of his loved ones. Ross even mocked Tyrone over his domestic abuse ordeal at the hands of his ex and constantly tries to toughen him up.
Fan theories about Ross's downfall
Fans are now concerned about where the plot is heading. One viewer suggested Ross may have an ulterior motive, while another believed things would reach a point where Ross attacks his son. A fan posted: "He hates Tyrone’s son so trying to hurt him," while another theory read: "Ross going to beat up Tyrone?"
Fans also think a character not currently on the show will return to take Ross down, either Tyrone's missing mother, Ross's ex Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), or Cassie's mother Evelyn (Dame Maureen Lipman). A fan posted: "Cassie will come back and save the day." Another fan posted: "Bring Evelyn back to get rid of him!!" as a third agreed: "I agree, Evelyn won’t stand for his nonsense."
Owen Armstrong's return announced
The speculation comes following the show announcing that former character Owen Armstrong is returning after a decade away. Actor Ian Puleston-Davies is reprising his role, and there's set to be trouble for Gary Windass. Owen decides to move back to the Cobbles to live with his daughter Izzy Armstrong amid trouble with Owen's young grandson Jake. His scenes won't air until January 2027, but actor Ian is back filming very soon.
After nearly 11 years, Owen returns to the Street, and it's said he is far from impressed by Gary's behaviour of late. Blaming Gary for Izzy and Jake's own drama, it's been teased Owen's comeback could spell trouble for Gary's business at the builders yard. Commenting on his return after his exit in 2015, Ian said: "I can’t wait to pick up where I left off ten years ago! It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen’s back and he’s still angry!"
Coronation Street Producer Kate Brooks teased what was ahead, saying: "We're thrilled that Ian is back, and Owen brings a ton of drama. As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street, and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test. Needless to say, there's never a dull moment when Owen's around." It's suggested Owen will be back for a while if not full-time, with an unexpected alliance teased. Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
