Clara, the Portuguese baker eliminated during Pastry Week of The Great British Bake Off, has spoken publicly about her departure for the first time. She appeared on Second Helpings, the new Channel 4 spin-off show, where she reflected on her time in the tent.
Seven bakers competed in the episode broadcast on Tuesday, October 27, with judges Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood overseeing the challenges. Clara finished last in the Technical Challenge and failed to impress with her Showstopper, leading to her elimination.
Clara's Reaction to Elimination
During her appearance on Second Helpings, hosted by Jon Richardson and Judi Love, Clara said: "I am so, so proud. I would never think I was going to be in the tent. So, episode three, episode six, whatever episode I was leaving, I was still happy that I at least got in and I've done it."
She added: "I was expecting [to go], obviously. I'm not amazing at pastry. I love doing it. So, when I was doing the Technical, I was already like, 'Okay, just accept and have fun'. And I did have a lot of fun, I think it was really nice."
Clara also admitted she would have changed the shape and filling of her Signature pastries, joking "What was I thinking?" and explaining she got "a bit carried away" with her deer-shaped concept.
Social Media Spoiler Backlash
Ahead of her Second Helpings appearance, Clara shared a video on Instagram of herself with Tom, this week's Star Baker, captioned "HOW IM LEAVING THE TENT." She also appeared in a selfie with Yannis, last week's eliminated baker, who wrote: "Eurosummer is officially over. Your Week 5 & 6 Europeans have left the tent. Catch my sis Clara on Second Helpings tonight with our gorgina bestie (who also took this banger of a pic) @tomwhittxker."
The posts prompted frustration from American viewers, who see new episodes on Fridays, unlike UK fans who watch on Tuesday nights. "Please stop giving spoilers to us audience," one person fumed, while another wrote "WHY SPOIL?" and a third said "The episode doesn't air in the US until Friday." Others echoed the sentiment, with one writing "Ack! Spoiler for us Americans!" and another sharing "Incoming complaints from outside the UK!"
Yannis Responds to US Fans
Yannis later addressed the American audience in a message, writing: "A little note to our lovely American viewers! We completely understand the frustration around spoilers! Bake Off airs in the UK every Tuesday at 8pm, followed immediately by Second Helpings, a live show featuring the departing baker, which we naturally want to promote and support!"
He added: "We appreciate the dilemma of wanting to follow us without spoilers, but we also want to celebrate these moments as they happen here in the UK. Thank you for all the love from across the pond!"
The Great British Bake Off is available to stream on Channel 4.
