Christmas on Grey Street pop-up bar to open in Newcastle in November

Newcastle city centre is showing early signs of Christmas, with a new festive bar preparing to open its doors in the coming weeks. Murals inspired by Home Alone, Love Actually and The Grinch have appeared in the windows of a well-known venue that closed last year, signalling the arrival of a seasonal pop-up called Christmas on Grey Street.

Former Leila Lily's site to become festive pop-up

The venue, located at the bottom of Grey Street, shut down in early March 2025 when Leila Lily's, a popular food and drink spot, served its final meals and cocktails. Since then, 'To Let' signs have been displayed on the building, but its immediate future has now been confirmed as it is transformed into the seasonal pop-up.

This will not be the first time the premises has operated under the Christmas on Grey Street name, having been given a makeover for the same purpose in the past, though it has not been seen in close to a decade. The opening date has been announced as November 12.

Movie-themed murals and QR code on display

Fans of Christmas films look set to be well catered for, with murals dedicated to Home Alone, The Grinch and Love Actually already on display. A QR code has also been placed in the windows for people to scan and receive the latest updates on the opening.

Other festive pop-ups in Newcastle

Christmas on Grey Street will not be the only festive pop-up opening in Newcastle this year. After several years of success in Times Square, Christmas in Newcastle will once again welcome customers to Rusty's, where the bar's lower level is set to become a 90s nostalgic experience, with classic tracks and films on rotation.
