Chris Packham 'so excited' as he's announced as host of new BBC nature show

Chris Packham, Kyle Thomas and Megan McCubbin are set to host a new weekly BBC nature programme called Naturewatch, which will debut on November 6. The show comes after the cancellation of Winterwatch and Autumnwatch by the BBC in 2023 and 2026.

New show details

Naturewatch will air weekly from a studio pod in the British countryside near Bristol, offering viewers an exploration of the natural world. The trio of presenters will deliver insights and observations to audiences across the UK.

Chris Packham expressed his excitement about the new venture, saying: "Packed with fresh science, guaranteed nerdiness and a lively, conversational spirit, this is a new nature adventure I can't wait to share with audiences. I'm so excited, I'm practically breaking out in a rash!"

Presenters' reactions

Packham added: "Together, we'll get to know our extraordinary wild neighbours, from newts to nightingales, nudibranchs to noctules. We'll blow minds, have a laugh, deepen our understanding and fall head over heels for the wildlife on our doorstep."

Megan McCubbin said: "I couldn't be more excited to be co-hosting this new show, Naturewatch! The natural world is full of incredible surprises, fascinating characters and lots of jaw-dropping moments."

Programme content

Each week, the programme will feature specialists addressing viewer questions, such as why birds consume rocks and why squirrels always land on their feet. The show's overview states: "Alongside the big questions, Naturewatch will explore the stories making waves in the natural world, uncover the science behind the headlines and bring the audience into the conversation with their own questions, observations and wildlife discoveries."

Every television episode will be followed by an audio-only Naturewatch Q&A, exclusive to BBC Sounds, allowing audiences to ask experts further questions. The show's description highlights the constant change in British nature: "Because every week, across the UK, something extraordinary is happening. Birds are arriving after epic migrations. Salmon are making remarkable journeys."

Naturewatch will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds from 6am on Friday, November 6, and will air at 7.30pm on BBC Two.
