A special episode of Celebrity Gogglebox will air this Friday as part of Channel 4's season celebrating 50 years since the first UK Pride march. The episode will feature Nick Grimshaw, Rylan Clark, and other LGBTQ+ personalities watching and commenting on television programmes.
The season includes two documentaries. One, titled '50 Years Of Pride', explores the history of the movement through first-person accounts and archive footage, made with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry and playwright Joe Robertson. Another, provisionally titled 'April Ashley', focuses on the life of the transgender model and dancer who died last year at age 86.
A later two-part documentary, 'Outed: George Michael And The Fight For Freedom', will examine how the pop star's sexuality was revealed by the media and the impact on his career. Other public figures whose sexuality was also outed will feature.
Compilations of 'Naked Attraction' and 'First Dates' will highlight memorable LGBTQ+ contributors. Louisa Compton, head of news and current affairs at Channel 4, said the broadcaster has a long history of LGBTQ+ content, including 'It's A Sin' and 'Queer As Folk'.
