The BBC has announced the return of the snooker-themed game show Big Break, with a new hosting lineup featuring television presenter Paddy McGuinness and seven-time world snooker champion Stephen Hendry. The duo will take over the roles previously held by Jim Davidson and the late John Virgo, who died earlier this year at the age of 79.
Format and Changes
The original Big Break aired on BBC screens from 1991 to 2002. In the revived version, three contestants will be paired with professional snooker players, competing over three rounds to reach the show's finale. Hendry will step into Virgo's shoes, displaying trick shots throughout the programme. The BBC promises a "brand-new look and feel" for the series, and applications are now open for fans who wish to participate.
Inspiring a New Generation
Hendry expressed his enthusiasm for the show's revival, stating: "Big Break was a unique mix of trick shots and great entertainment, and I can't wait to be back at the table and bringing this incredible show to a whole new audience. And who knows, we might inspire the next generation of snooker players to get into the sport." Co-host McGuinness added: "I am absolutely delighted to be a part of Big Break. It is one of those shows everyone knows and loves, so to be hosting it alongside legend Stephen Hendry will be something special."
Production for the series will begin shortly, and it is set to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
