Channel 5's new drama Little Disasters has become a hit with viewers, with many recognising one of its stars from popular BBC series. The thriller, adapted from Sarah Vaughan's bestselling novel, features an impressive cast including Jo Joyner (EastEnders), Shelley Conn (Bridgerton), and Patrick Baladi (The Office).
Plot and Premise
The series centres on four close friends whose decade-long bond is thrown into turmoil when one of them rushes her baby to hospital with an unexplained head injury. When her friend and A&E doctor, Liz (played by Jo Joyner), is left with no option but to alert social services, the situation takes a dramatic turn.
Chizzy Akudolu's Role
Sharp-eyed viewers may recognise social worker Lucy Harding, portrayed by Chizzy Akudolu. Akudolu is best known for her long-standing role as consultant surgeon Mo Effanga in BBC's Holby City, which she played from 2012 to 2017. She briefly reprised the role in 2022 for the drama's final episode.
BBC viewers may also recognise her from Beyond Paradise, where she played Reverend Kate Beccles in the 2024 Christmas special and later appeared as a guest cast member in the third series. This was not her first appearance in the Paradise universe, as she previously featured in the original series Death in Paradise in 2019 as Butterfly Brown.
Viewer Reception
Since Little Disasters first aired in June, it has received widespread acclaim. One viewer remarked: "I remember watching this ages ago - it was very good." Another shared: "Just finished binge watching this last night. Absolutely brilliant cast! Grabbed your attention from the very 1st episode + you were gripped!" A further fan added: "Watching now it's so good."
Little Disasters is available to stream on My5.
