Tim Burton's hit 1988 comedy horror film, Beetlejuice, is enjoying an all-singing, all-dancing afterlife on stage. After recent productions in the United States and Australia, the musical adaptation opens in London this month. We braved rehearsals for a first look at the show.
Behind the Scenes at Prince Edward Theatre
The photographs, captured by Tristram Kenton, offer a glimpse into the making of Beetlejuice: The Musical at the Prince Edward theatre in London. The production features a talented cast and creative team bringing the beloved story to life.
Cast and Characters
Aimie Atkinson and Alasdair Harvey are seen in rehearsals. David Fynn plays the 'bio-exorcist' Beetlejuice, summoned when his name is said three times. Hannah Nordberg takes on the role of Lydia Deetz, originally played by Winona Ryder in the film. Lydia moves into a house still inhabited by the ghosts of its previous owners, Adam and Barbara Maitland, played by David Hunter and Chelsea Halfpenny respectively.
Creative Team
The show is choreographed by Connor Gallagher, with costume design by William Ivey Long. Alex Timbers directs the production, while scenic design is by David Korins and lighting by Kenneth Posner. Puppet designs are by Michael Curry, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, and illusions by Michael Weber. The musical's book is by Scott Brown and Anthony King, with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect.
Critical Acclaim
When Beetlejuice opened in Sydney in 2025, the Guardian's Tim Byrne called it 'a hell of a lot of fun.' The London production promises to deliver the same energy and excitement.
Beetlejuice: The Musical is now playing at the Prince Edward theatre in London's West End.
