The BBC has announced details of its latest period drama, The Other Bennet Sister, a ten-part adaptation of Janice Hadlow's 2020 novel. The series reimagines Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of Mary Bennet, the overlooked middle sister, as she seeks independence and self-discovery.
The story follows Mary as she leaves Longbourn for the social events of Regency London and the landscapes of the Lake District. The cast is led by Ella Bruccoleri, known for her roles in Call the Midwife and Bridgerton. Richard E Grant and Ruth Jones play Mr and Mrs Bennet, with Indira Varma and Richard Coyle as the Gardiners.
The series premieres on Sunday, March 15, with the first five episodes available on BBC iPlayer from 6am. A weekly double bill airs on BBC One at 8pm. Episodes 6-10 drop on iPlayer on March 29. BritBox will premiere the series in the US and Canada on May 6.
