The upcoming third series of BBC thriller The Capture will include what its creator describes as the show's "best episode" to date. The programme, starring Holliday Grainger, Ron Perlman, Paapa Essiedu and Indira Varma, returns after a four-year hiatus on March 8.
Creator Ben Chanan teased the new season in an interview with Radio Times, singling out the third episode of the new run. "Episode 3, season 3, is the best episode we've ever made," he said.
The series, which premiered in 2019 and returned for a second run in 2022, was a major hit with viewers. The third series picks up a year after the events of series two, in which Rachel Carey (Grainger) broadcast a live deepfake of a government minister, exposing the UK intelligence service's secret video manipulation programme, Correction.
An ongoing inquiry into the unlawful use of Correction is now under way, and Carey has become Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command. The synopsis describes a brutal, well-coordinated act of terror targeting the British establishment, leaving only one witness. As Carey investigates, she is drawn into a geopolitical crisis that infects the political establishment, security services and media.
New cast members joining the returning main cast include Killian Scott, Joe Dempsie, Andrew Buchan, Hugh Quarshie, Amanda Drew and Linus Roache. Episode one of the six-part series will launch on BBC iPlayer at 6am on Sunday, March 8, and air on BBC One at 9pm that evening, with subsequent episodes released weekly on both platforms.
