Gethin Jones announced his departure from BBC's Morning Live on Friday, marking the final episode of the year before the show's Christmas hiatus. The Welsh presenter, who has been juggling his TV duties with a starring role in pantomime, confirmed he will return alongside co-host Helen Skelton on January 5.
Jones is currently performing as Prince Gethin of Gabalfa in Sleeping Beauty at Cardiff's New Theatre. The pantomime commitments have required him to step back from his regular morning show appearances, though he made a special return for the festive finale.
During the episode, after a performance by Alfie Boe, Jones told viewers: 'We are taking a break, and we will be back on Monday, January 5, at 9.30am as usual.' Skelton added: 'From all of us, wherever you are, whoever you're with this Christmas, we hope you have reasons to look forward and be thankful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.'
In a video shared on Instagram the day before, Jones gave fans an update on his pantomime run, noting he had not been 'booed off yet' and was managing his back injury with 'very boring rehab'. He expressed excitement about returning to Morning Live for the final show of the year before the two-week break.
