Scott Mills Faces Public Setbacks After BBC Dismissal

Scott Mills, the former BBC Radio 2 host, has encountered a series of public setbacks following his dismissal by the corporation last week. The 53-year-old presenter was let go due to a 2016 police investigation into allegations of 'serious sexual offences' against a teenage boy between 1997 and 2000, though the case was dropped seven years ago for lack of evidence.

In the wake of the scandal, Mills has been removed from the Ibiza Symphonica summer concert line-up, with organisers citing the 'serious nature' of the allegations. Channel 4 also announced it will not air the final episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off featuring Mills, replacing it with an alternative episode. The broadcaster stated it did not believe it would be appropriate to air the episode at this time.

Additionally, Mills has stepped back from his role as an ambassador for the MS Society, a charity he had supported since 2015. The charity said it was reviewing the situation. Fans have noted that episodes of Top of the Pops presented by Mills have been skipped on BBC Four, and a plaque dedicated to him at the BBC Radio 1 studio has been removed, along with his photos at Radio 2. A bridge plaque in Fleet, installed in 2016 after a light-hearted campaign, has also been taken down.

The BBC has replaced Mills with Tyler West as host of the podcast Race Across the World: The Detour, which Mills had previously won with his husband Sam Vaughn in 2024. The BBC confirmed the change in a press release.
