Balamory Renewed for Two More Series After Reboot Success
Balamory Gets Two More Series After Reboot Triumph

The iconic children's television programme Balamory has been renewed for two additional series following the remarkable success of its recent reboot. The BBC confirmed that the beloved CBeebies show, which returned to screens earlier this year after a hiatus of more than two decades, will now be extended beyond its initially planned two series. Series two is scheduled to air later this year, with series three and four to follow thereafter.

Return of Familiar Faces

The reimagined series saw original stars Julie Wilson Nimmo and Andrew Agnew reprise their roles as Miss Hoolie and PC Plum respectively, across ten new 15-minute episodes. Ahead of ten further episodes premiering in 2026, the broadcaster announced that fans will not have to wait long for additional content on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer. The first episode of the recommissioned series, titled One Man Band, attracted a staggering 1.5 million viewers within 28 days of its release, making it the biggest new CBeebies episode launch of 2026. The BBC stated that this success underscores the 'enduring appeal of the much-loved brand'.

Cast and Characters

Julie Wilson Nimmo, 54, steps back into the shoes of the kindly nursery teacher Miss Hoolie. Other returning cast members include Kim Tserkezie, 52, as cafe and shop owner Penny Pocket, and Juliet Cadzow, 74, as village bus driver Edie McCredie. New additions to the cast include Carl Spencer, 33, as village vet Dr Ollie, Will Andrews, 48, as the harbourmaster, and Danielle Jam, 25, as scientist and inventor Ava Potts.

Critical Acclaim and Viewer Response

Following the release of the first series on BBC iPlayer, many fans praised the reboot as a welcome return. A large number of viewers admitted to tuning in having watched the original run during their childhood. On social media platform X, one fan wrote: 'Watching the first episode of the #Balamory reboot felt so nice and comforting! It definitely felt like it paid homage to the original series, which is incredibly rare to see.' Another declared that Julie Wilson Nimmo 'deserved a damehood', while others shared emotional reactions, with one viewer stating: 'Set my alarm for 16.55 to see the new #Balamory with my big kid who used to be little, sobbing at the first sight of Miss Hoolie and PC Plum.'

Production Team Comments

Kate Morton, senior head of commissioning for CBeebies, expressed her delight at the show's resurgence: 'Balamory has always been about community, creativity and helping children understand the world around them. Seeing it return and connect so strongly with audiences, both those discovering it for the first time and those who remember it so fondly, has been incredibly special. This recommission is a testament to the enduring power of children's media to make lasting memories and promote kindness, inclusion and togetherness.'

Lisa Hazlehurst, head of production company Lion Television Scotland, added: 'We are thrilled to be able to dream up more adventures for the Balamory gang following the wonderful response to the reboot. At Lion Scotland we believe there is something truly magical about seeing real people sharing adventures in one of the most beautiful settings on the planet. Balamory reminds children that kindness and teamwork can solve even the trickiest problems with a little imagination and a healthy dollop of humour. We should all be a bit more Balamory.'

Impact on Tobermory

The show's return has also generated significant anticipation in the town of Tobermory, which served as the filming location. The original series led to a 40% increase in tourism, and the reboot is expected to have a similar effect. The town's brightly coloured houses have become iconic thanks to the programme.

Balamory originally aired from 2002 to 2005, attracting up to two million viewers per week at its peak. It even gained an international following, with rumours that Pope John Paul II was a fan. The new series is available to stream on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
