Bake Off star Alice Fevronia reveals behind-the-scenes secrets
Bake Off star reveals what viewers don't see on camera

Alice Fevronia, who reached the final of The Great British Bake Off in 2019, has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the Channel 4 show, revealing details that viewers never see on camera.

What happens in the tent

Fevronia, who impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith before narrowly missing out on victory to David Atherton, posted a series of images on her social media. One photo showed that the middle aisle is "absolutely packed" during challenges, filled with dozens of people including producers, runners and camera crew to ensure everything runs smoothly and dramatic moments are captured.

She also explained that while bakers can practice recipes at home, they get "one shot" in the tent. Another image showed her with fellow bakers, with a comment noting: "You see an hour show, but it takes two whole days to film (6am - 8pm during early episodes when there are a lot of bakers)".

Judging and secrecy

Fevronia added that judging takes hours, with significant time between challenges. She also revealed the secrecy required: "You can't tell anyone you're on the show, so you have to get inventive as you lie to 90% of your friends, family and colleagues. I dreaded the 'how was your weekend?' question on Monday mornings."

In her caption, she praised the crew, writing: "So many incredible people work so hard to make the show. For example, spare a thought for the lady who does all of the washing up by hand because it would be too noisy to have dishwashers in the tent!"

Fan reactions

Followers responded enthusiastically to the revelations. One person commented, "This is soooo interesting to see and learn!!" Another added: "Love these sneak peeks. I've been intrigued as to how it's all filmed/baked/judged in reality! Thanks for sharing."

A third wrote: "Thank you for this, Alice! So fascinating. I loved your whole group, just the sweetest, most fun people ever." Another said: "I loveeee this behind-the-scenes look at the show! I've always been really curious about it!"

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays on Channel 4 from 8pm.
