The Great British Bake Off has been thrown into chaos after a contestant was forced to leave the Channel 4 tent before the first episode had even finished. Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding returned alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, but a show source revealed that one baker had already gone missing by the end of the first show.
On the second day of filming, a baker had to pull out due to illness. Alison confirmed the baker would be absent from the rest of the episode. An insider said: “The baker was gutted to miss out on the second day but they weren't feeling up to it and so they had to sit it out.”
Despite the setback, the programme made history with one of the earliest Hollywood handshakes, as Paul offered his hand to a baker within the first 30 minutes of the episode. Later, the bakers faced a twist: a 'taste and bake' challenge where they had to recreate a cake after a five-minute inspection, with no recipe provided.
Elsewhere, Paul revealed that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were spotted filming near the tent. Noel recounted on Good Morning Britain: “Somebody said 'there's a guy out there dressed as Wolverine'… and it was Deadpool!” Paul added that Ryan was thrilled and even Zoomed his wife Blake Lively, who was eager to meet the Bake Off stars.
