Apprentice Interviews: Candidate's Story Moves Claudine Collins to Tears

The Apprentice's Interview Stage Delivers Unexpected Emotional Moments

The high-pressure interview stage of The Apprentice took a surprising and heartfelt turn this week, with beauty brand owner Karishma Vijay's personal story moving interviewer Claudine Collins to tears. In a preview of the upcoming episode, the emotional exchange highlights the human drama behind the quest for Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment.

Karishma Vijay's Poignant Motivation

Karishma Vijay, a 28-year-old entrepreneur and one of the final five candidates, sat down with Claudine Collins for her grilling. When asked about her drive and determination, Karishma revealed a deeply personal motivation rooted in family struggles.

'My dad was, at one point, a very financially stable man. Now we have very little to get through each month,' she explained. 'It's why I'm here, because for me, at the core of my business plan is rent is due on the 22nd. Today—my rent is due today.'

She continued, detailing the impact of financial instability: 'It's been my thought and it's sad for me that we're moving every six months. Money is just such a big issue for us right now. But I want to give him the world. Everything I do, my dad's at the very core of it. I want to do him very proud in this life.'

Claudine, visibly moved, responded warmly: 'Karishma, I think that your dad and your family would be so proud of you. And I wish you all the best.' After Karishma left the room, cameras captured Claudine wiping tears from her eyes, underscoring the emotional weight of the moment.

Kieran McCartney's Dramatic Exit

In a separate development, candidate Kieran McCartney, 27, made a sensational exit from the show after back-to-back task failures. Earlier in the series, he struck a dramatic 'win or walk' agreement with Lord Sugar, 79, vowing to leave if he lost another challenge as project manager.

'I've been project manager twice on the same task, if I stay in this process, I would like to be the project manager on task 10 to prove to you what I can do. If I lose, we shake hands, I walk out,' Kieran declared. Lord Sugar granted his request but warned him about the upcoming task's unrelated nature to selling houses.

Kieran stood firm, replying: 'If I lose, I'll walk.' However, the pact backfired spectacularly when his cat product failed to attract sales in Thursday's challenge, leading to his elimination from the final five.

Reflecting on his departure, Kieran said: 'It was win or walk. I'm not a beg. I'm not going to beg for my place, a deal's a deal and Lord Sugar hasn't seen the last of me.' He added that his outspoken nature made him an easy target for blame but acknowledged he could have fought harder to stay.

Other Firings and Reflections

Alongside Kieran's exit, his teammate Rothna Akhtar, who confessed to a fear of animals, was also fired from the process. Rothna expressed mixed feelings about her elimination, stating: 'It was disappointing in that immediate moment, but it wasn't a complete shock because I was standing against Dan, who I knew had a really good business.'

She described the experience as gut-wrenching but noted a slight relief due to the intensity of the competition. The episode sets the stage for the final push toward Lord Sugar's investment, with emotional and dramatic twists shaping the remaining candidates' journeys.

The Apprentice continues Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer, followed by The Apprentice: Unfinished Business at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
