Antony Starr, known for his role in 'The Boys', is set to lead the Netflix series 'Breakers', a scripted drama from the creator of 'Somewhere Boy'. The series follows two American best friends on a backpacking trip in Australia, where they encounter a seemingly perfect surfing community led by a charismatic and mysterious figure named Brando, played by Starr.
Production has already begun in Western Australia and is scheduled to wrap in June. 'Breakers' is the first Netflix series to shoot in the region, supported by local tax incentives.
The series is written by Pete Jackson, known for 'The Death of Bunny Munro' and 'Somewhere Boy', and directed by Mary Nighy ('Say Nothing', 'Industry') and Ng Choon Ping ('What It Feels Like For A Girl', 'Femme').
Produced by Clerkenwell Films, the BBC Studios-owned company behind 'Baby Reindeer' and 'The End Of The F***ing World', the show is made in partnership with BBC Studios Productions Australia. Executive producers include Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, Wim De Greef, and Jackson.
Starr recently completed a five-season run on 'The Boys', with its final season airing in April, and has wrapped production on 'Samo Lives', where he plays Andy Warhol. His other credits include 'Banshee', 'G20', 'Cobweb', and 'American Gothic'.
