Antiques Roadshow Indiana Jones props valued at £150k

An Antiques Roadshow guest struggled to hold back tears after expert Stephen Lane valued his collection of Indiana Jones props at approximately £150,000. The valuation took place during the latest episode of the BBC programme, which aired on Sunday, October 18.

The roadshow visited Valentines Mansion in East London, where local residents brought in antiques and fine arts for appraisal. Items featured on the show included a box of rare French buttons, a futuristic coffee set, and wrestling memorabilia.

Props from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Stephen Lane was presented with props from the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which starred Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. Host Fiona Bruce noted that original items from beloved movies, including early design sketches, are now coveted by fans and collectors.

The guest brought several props from the blockbuster, including 60 pages from the Grail Diary, which Stephen described as one of the "most significant" props in the film. The guest explained that he and his wife made props at Shepperton Studios for 41 years, including the Grail Diaries, the Grail cup, and the Cross of Coronado.

Valuations and Emotional Tribute

Stephen revealed that each of the Grail cups could fetch between £5,000 and £10,000, while the Cross of Coronado items could each sell for £3,000 to £6,000 at auction. The 60 Grail Diary pages were valued at £2,000 per page, bringing the total collection to around £150,000.

The guest became emotional as he paid tribute to his wife, who had made the props with him. "Can I just say, my wife and I did this for 41 years. 82 years between us, and without her, none of this would have happened. Unfortunately, she can't be here today, but thank you," he said, choking back tears.

Antiques Roadshow is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
