Amandaland Christmas Special Cast Reunites Absolutely Fabulous Stars
Amandaland Christmas Special Cast Revealed

This festive season, the BBC is treating viewers to a special Christmas episode of the hit comedy Amandaland, the popular spin-off from Motherland. The one-off special promises laughter, family secrets, and a nostalgic trip to the countryside, featuring a highly-anticipated reunion of comedy royalty.

A Festive Getaway Descends Into Chaos

In the Amandaland Christmas Special, Amanda, played by Lucy Punch, plans a picture-perfect holiday. She takes her children, Manus and Georgie, along with her mother Felicity to her Aunt Joan's country house, a place filled with cherished childhood memories.

However, her vision of a magical, traditional Christmas quickly unravels. Her plans are upended when her friend and fellow school mum, Anne, and her reluctant neighbour, Mal, unexpectedly decide to tag along. Amanda finds herself struggling to recreate the perfect Christmases of her youth amidst the new dynamic.

The official BBC synopsis hints at the ensuing turmoil: "Anne is in despair at being separated from her family, and Felicity is increasingly irritated by her sister’s constant high spirits. Meanwhile, Mal sees a hidden photo that seems to reveal a deep family secret."

Meet the Star-Studded Cast

The special boasts an impressive ensemble cast, headlined by the reunion of two iconic British comedians.

Lucy Punch returns as the central character, Amanda, a divorced mother of two navigating the complexities of modern family life. The 47-year-old Hammersmith-born actress is known for her roles in films like Hot Fuzz and Bad Teacher.

Playing Amanda's glamorous and exasperating mother, Felicity, is national treasure Dame Joanna Lumley. The 79-year-old actress, made a Dame in 2022, is globally celebrated for her role as Patsy Stone in the legendary series Absolutely Fabulous.

In a delightful twist for fans, Felicity's sister, Aunt Joan, is portrayed by none other than Jennifer Saunders. This marks a major on-screen reunion for Saunders and Lumley, her Absolutely Fabulous co-star and comedy partner. Saunders, 67, is an acclaimed comedian and writer in her own right.

Irish actress Philippa Dunne takes on the role of the despairing Anne, Amanda's friend. Dunne is best known for playing Geraldine Devlin in Derry Girls and Ria in This Is Going to Hurt.

Amanda's neighbour Mal is played by Samuel Anderson. The 43-year-old Birmingham-born actor has appeared in series such as Emmerdale and Trollied.

Rounding out the core family are the younger cast members. Miley Locke stars as Amanda's daughter Georgie, while Alexander Shaw plays her son Manus.

A Christmas Treat for BBC Viewers

The Amandaland Christmas Special is set to be a highlight of the BBC's festive programming. It combines the relatable, chaotic humour of the original Motherland series with the nostalgic appeal of a classic Christmas family gathering gone awry.

The casting coup of reuniting Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders is sure to draw significant attention, appealing to both loyal fans of the parent show and those who fondly remember the antics of Edina and Patsy. The special promises a blend of heartfelt moments, comedic tension, and the potential revelation of a shocking family secret, all set against a festive backdrop.
