Alan Ritchson, the star of the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher, will not face any criminal charges following a violent confrontation with a neighbour in Tennessee, as police have determined he acted in self-defence. The Brentwood police department confirmed the closure of the case after reviewing evidence, including video footage and witness statements.
Investigation Details and Police Statement
In a statement issued on Tuesday night, authorities stated that after a thorough investigation, they found Ritchson's actions were justified as self-defence. Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered against the neighbour, Ronnie Taylor, Ritchson declined to pursue any charges. With the agreement of the District Attorney's Office, the case is now officially closed, and no further action will be taken.
Footage and Witness Accounts
The incident gained widespread attention after TMZ released edited video footage showing Ritchson striking Taylor multiple times as Taylor knelt on the ground in a suburban neighbourhood. Ritchson's two children were nearby, sitting on motorbikes and observing the altercation. However, later body cam footage revealed more context: Taylor rushed into the street, obstructing Ritchson's bike, which caused Ritchson to go over the handlebars to avoid a collision.
After a verbal exchange, Ritchson attempted to leave by returning to his bike, but Taylor followed and shoved him, escalating the situation into a physical fight. Taylor admitted to TMZ that he instigated the contact by pushing Ritchson twice, citing noise complaints about the motorbike as the reason for his actions.
Background on Alan Ritchson and the Reacher Series
Alan Ritchson, 43, is best known for his role as Jack Reacher, a fictional former US army military police officer with extensive combat experience, in the Amazon Prime Video series. The show, based on Lee Child's bestselling crime novels, has been praised for Ritchson's physical portrayal, which more closely matches the character's original description as a muscular man standing 6ft 5in and weighing 250lb, compared to Tom Cruise's depiction in the 2012 film Jack Reacher.
Ritchson or his representatives have not yet commented publicly on the incident. The case highlights the complexities of self-defence claims in altercations, with police emphasising that all available evidence was considered before reaching their conclusion.
