Adrian Dunbar Confirms Line of Duty Return

The BBC has confirmed that hit crime drama Line of Duty will return for a seventh series, with a new six-part season set to air. Creator Jed Mercurio expressed delight at the renewal, joking that corruption in the UK was supposed to have ended while the show was off air.

The series will see the return of lead characters played by Vicky McClure, Martin Compston, and Adrian Dunbar. The new plot involves the disbandment of AC-12 and its rebranding as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, with the team investigating a detective inspector accused of being a sexual predator.

Dunbar described the reunion as a joy, while Compston called the show 'the job of a lifetime'. The identity of the guest suspect has not yet been revealed, though the show has a history of featuring big-name stars such as Keeley Hawes and Stephen Graham.

The announcement comes despite recent comments from McClure downplaying the possibility of a return. The show's sixth season finale in 2021 drew a record 12.8 million viewers, though it received mixed reviews from critics.
