Thriller 'Sai' hailed as 'haunting beyond belief' on Netflix

Netflix subscribers are calling the six-part psychological thriller Sai "haunting beyond belief" and one of the "best shows ever," as the limited series gains attention following its UK release last month.

The mystery drama, which first premiered in Japan in 2025, follows six struggling individuals facing a crisis. Each person encounters a strange and mysterious man who changes himself to blend into their lives.

A Series About Disaster and Deception

Titled Sai, meaning disaster in Japanese, the series has an English dub and has been branded a must-watch for all Netflix subscribers. A synopsis teases: "Six struggling people each encounter the same enigmatic man in different guises. Every meeting unleashes a unique disaster as the series unfolds."

The show is available to stream on Netflix.

Viewers Share Their Reactions

Taking to Reddit recently, one Netflix subscriber said the streaming giant had recommended the limited series, so they started it "out of curiosity." They added: "By the third episode, I was quite taken aback by the murders. I'm currently on the fourth episode, with only the final two left to go. Netflix didn't suggest this title to me last year; has anyone here watched it and enjoyed *SAI?"

One person replied that it was an "amazing show, don't miss it," as another commented that they "loved the show," adding: "Everything made me anxious and involved."

A third added: "Yeah more people need to talk about this show. Great acting, great music, it's atmospheric, slow burn and the pressure and the dread just build and build until tragedies hit. I also love that most episodes spend a lot of time depicting the less sanitized sides of the Japanese society and ordinary people's constant struggle, which is just as horrifying as the 'sai' in the show."

Haunting and Unsettling Praise

A fourth "binged watched it" as a fifth echoed: "This one was haunting beyond belief. The schoolgirl who dreams of being an architect hit me so hard in a way that almost zero shows/movies can accomplish. This show had and still has me questioning what was even real. I need more content like this!!!"

Another simply wrote: "It was the pauses that unnerved me and the score was amazing!" In a previous Reddit post last month, one user admitted: "This is easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. Rarely has a miniseries (or any series for that matter) left such a mark on me after finishing it. And I'm still reeling."

Sai can be streamed on Netflix.
