Temptation Island, the long-running US reality series, has been labelled the 'most toxic show on TV' by viewers—yet it has soared up the Netflix rankings days after its second season landed on the platform.
The show, which has been on air for 25 years, follows four unmarried couples who travel to a tropical island to test their fidelity. In a controversial twist, the couples are separated and introduced to groups of singles of the opposite sex, whose aim is to tempt them into having an affair.
Since moving to Netflix in 2024, the series has gained a new legion of fans. However, many critics have slammed it for 'promoting cheating', and social media users have described it as 'messy, dark and wild'. One Reddit user admitted: 'I watch every messed-up couple, and yet somehow… I can't look away.'
The second season features four new couples at a crossroads in their relationships: Jack and Shyanne (five years together), Mikey and Sydney (18 months), Cole and Scarlett (two years), and Kaylee and Summit (one year). The official Netflix teaser says the couples will 'face plenty of temptation' as they live separately with singles.
As of April 12, the show is the seventh most-watched TV series in the UK on Netflix. Despite the backlash, fans have admitted to bingeing all eight episodes, with one commenting: 'My favourite humiliation ritual is back on Netflix. I'll be hate-watching this for the next few days.'
