Prisoner Review: Silly Fun with Handcuffed Pair on the Run

Prisoner, a new six-part action thriller, has been described as 'stupid fun' in a recent review. The series stars Tahar Rahim as Tibor Stone, a prolific contract killer with Type 3 diabetes, and Izuka Hoyle as Amber, a prison guard who handcuffs herself to him after an ambush. Together, they go on the run from the Pegasus Crime Syndicate.

The plot begins with Amber returning from maternity leave and volunteering for an overtime job transporting Stone to the Old Bailey. Her van is ambushed, leading to shootouts and a overturned vehicle. She handcuffs herself to Stone to prevent his escape, setting the stage for a series of action set pieces.

The supporting cast includes Eddie Marsan and Catherine McCormack as members of the National Crime Unit, tasked with bringing down syndicate head Harrison Dempsey, played by Brían F O'Byrne. Leonie Benesch appears as Nina, a relentless pursuer of the pair.

The review notes that while the script is weak and some performances lack conviction, the series is slick and undemanding entertainment. It highlights implausible moments, such as the frequency of insulin shots for Stone's diabetes, but concludes that viewers may enjoy the escapism.
